It's like the sun's exploding...

Fri Aug 7, 2009, 7:17 AM
I found a legal pad under my boss' desk at work. I'm taking it and don't feel even a little bad. I've had the urge to write by hand for a few weeks now, but didn't have any paper. Now I do. It's a slow process. It hurts, but it feels right.

If this turns into anything (so far, the urge is prose) I'll post it up.

And the title is part of a line I've written since I grabbed this about five minutes ago.

June Prompts

Tue May 19, 2009, 4:29 PM
Alright - as promised, I'm going to set up 30 prompts for poetry, flash fiction, short stories, art, whatever. You do NOT have to do these in order. The goal is to do one a day. Some are dialogue, some are concepts, some are just words. The idea is to let them move all those creative juices. So let's get to it!

1.) Hell freezes over
2.) "Either you tell him or I will"
3.) levitation
4.) "A haunted -what-?"
5.) phobia
6.) God's vacation
7.) poker
8.) con man
9.) "I've seen a lot, but I've got to admit... that freaks me out."
10.) blame
11.) celibacy
12.) top secret
13.) "Are you following me?"
14.) Las Vegas
15.) possession
16.) digging in the garden
17.) butcher the language
18.) cure
19.) "I think you broke it."
20.) mimic
21.) cookbook
22.) "It would be best if you put that back where you found it."
23.) bugged
24.) bad nun
25.) "I know kung fu."
26.) coffee shop waitress
27.) "I refuse to sign."
28.) Jupiter
29.) love letter
30.) wine

I realize that these are -very- random, but I'm hoping it will produce -beautiful- work. Now I set to promote!

P.S. - If you join up, comment so I can make sure to keep track of you :)

Prompt table, anyone?

Mon May 18, 2009, 6:13 AM
Wow, I don't come around here at ALL for posting, huh? I lurk tons, but just haven't had anything to post. Well, last summer I was able to participate in some awesome prompt tables set up by another user ( ~cypriphobia ) and enjoyed every minute of the experience, so I thought I'd come up with my own table here in the next few days for June - and basically was going to post a journal here to alert my watchers (how few and far between you are, lol) to the idea so if anyone else is interested, I can link it up.

Another one bites the dust

Sun Nov 9, 2008, 11:41 AM
No more controversial journal. It's been up long enough to prove my point.

I hate losing friends over ridiculous bullshit like a lack of communication, but sometimes that's the way it goes, eh?

A year ago, I'd be calling her and stumbling over myself trying to apologize even if I don't think I'm completely at fault... but I learned something over the course of the last year:

People who don't work with you just aren't worth the time.

And so I'm just gonna keep my head up.

In more appropriate news: I'm in the mood to write, though I'm having trouble figuring out just what to write ABOUT.

Hmmm... I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Race is a four-letter word

Thu Nov 6, 2008, 8:17 PM
In case you haven't heard - I'm a racist.

Now, this news is most shocking to me based on the group of friends I keep. No, they are not ethnically diverse. I do not have a black best friend. But out of my close knit circle, I would have pegged myself several down from the top of those "Most Likely to Lose a Friend Over a Joke."

"But Allison," you may say, "Racial jokes are never funny!"

Bullshit. Everyone makes them. Different races (or other factors that people can't control - blonde jokes included) but everyone fucking makes them and everyone fucking laughs at them. No one is exempt to this rule.

We have a biracial president now. Awesome. I supported him from the get-go and fought on his behalf against way too many of my Republican friends to count. I watched eagerly to see just how the election would turn out and was so happy to see Obama win. I've told my ignorant friends to shut their traps and still find myself shaking my head when an old friend from high school spouts off about how he's the anti-christ.

I have never made a joke at Obama's expense. Let's just make the record clear there.

Holly, I hope you read this, and I doubt I'll know if you do, because you probably won't comment. Why is it that we spent an entire night talking about how people just need to TALK to one another about their problems... CLEAR the air... GET IT OUT... but you hide this resentment you've harbored for damn close to a month based on one thing I said in relation to a movie we were watching as part of my usual straight-from-a-movie commentary.

I have apologized several times since learning that you were upset by it, but can you honestly blame me for not being a mind reader? We've had mild conversation since then about boys and work and life in general and you STILL didn't bring up this apparent wound you've been carrying for weeks.

I just don't get it, I guess. I don't understand why you can't just go "Hey, Alli. That was shitty." And I'd apologize and we could have an adult discussion and perhaps come to some sort of conclusion that DOESN'T end with you just cutting me out of your life because OTHER people said OTHER things that I have no way of controlling.

I'm sorry for what I said because that's the part that I can apologize for. Knowing what I do now, I'd take it back if I could. I'm sorry for what everyone else has said that has made you escalate my comment into this giant mess.

I guess I thought more of our friendship.
